development to support geologic map databases (can include links to
pertinent glossaries, science language, etc.):
Geography Markup Language (GML), eXploration and Mining Markup Language (XMML), Assay Data Exchange language (ADX)
- Purpose and justification:
XMML is intended to provide an XML encoding of information exchanged in the course of mineral exploration activities.
Since XMML is designed as a "GML Application Language" it is compatible with Open GIS Consortium Web Service specifications,
in particular Web Feature Service.
The XMML project was initiated with support from participants in the mineral industry (service providers, mining companies)
and subsequently attracted support from statutory data custodians and regulatory agencies (Geological Surveys, Mines Departments).
The Assay Data Exchange language (ADX) is a parallel specification being developed in conjunction with the assay lab industry.
- Scope and audience:
Software and system developers working with the mining industry, regulators, geological surveys; web service developers.
- When was the standards development activity established?
2000-present
